BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE PROCUREMENT DIRECTORATE OF BOLGATANGA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
The Procurement Unit is an outfit established in 2007 in the then Polytechnic before its conversion to Technical University in April 2020. The Procurement Unit was upgraded to a Directorate under the office of the Vice Chancellor in 2020. The Procurement Directorate is responsible for the planning and coordinating of all procurement activities of the University. It ensured that goods, works and services undertaken by the University are available at the right time, right place, in the right quantities, right price and right quality in accordance with the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as amended
Vision: To be a center of excellence in strategic based procurement by ensuring value for money in the procurement of goods, works, technical services and consultancy services for the University.
Mission: To ensure a strategic supply chain collaboration between suppliers, departments and students through fair, transparent and efficient manner for the growth of the University.

Biography
Ms. Agana, Vera Prudence is a highly qualified and accomplished procurement professional with a multifaceted career at Bolgatanga Technical University. She is a member of the prestigious Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and holds an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, among other advanced degrees. With extensive experience spanning Stores Management, Cash Management, and Procurement, Ms. Agana has been instrumental in the university's operational efficiency. Her expertise covers the entire procurement cycle, from initial sourcing and tender evaluation to contract award and reporting, consistently ensuring value for money for the institution. She currently plays a key role in the Pre-Tendering section, where her work involves compiling user requests, designing specifications, conducting market research, and developing tender documents. Her strategic focus is on identifying procurement needs, sourcing qualified suppliers, negotiating favourable contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality materials to support the university's academic and research missions.
Notable Achievements:
- Designed and implemented the university's combined Store Requisition and Issue Voucher, a critical value document.
- Developed a standardized Stocktaking Sheet now used for annual financial stocktaking and final account preparation.
- Played a strategic role in the major procurement of laboratory equipment for multiple departments, including Agricultural Engineering, Ecological Agriculture, Building Technology, and Medical Sciences.
- Served as a panel member for the successful opening and evaluation of a National Competitive Tender in 2024, leading to the procurement of a Toyota Pickup for the university through the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS).
