About the Directorate

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Directorate of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) was established in September, 2020 to strategically manage and support the technological infrastructure and digital services that enable teaching, learning, research, and administration within the institution. Its primary role is to facilitate academic and administrative operations, drive digital innovation, uphold IT governance and security standards, boost operational efficiency, and deliver a seamless technology experience for users.

Our Goal

  • Develop, deploy, secure and maintain a computing, networking infrastructure and software systems for optimized efficiency to achieve institutional objectives.

Directorate Units

Technical Support Unit

Responsible for the following operations and activities:

 • Install, maintain, repair and support institutional hardware including but not limited to desktops, laptops, printers, projectors, scanners, routers, switches, servers, racks, UPS systems, storage devices, and smartphones

. • Provide technical support to staff and students of the university, including training. •

Provide technical support to lecture rooms and public spaces fitted with hardware.

Networking & Infrastructure Unit

Responsible for the following operations and activities: – Install, maintain, repair and support institutional network infrastructure including but not limited to: access points, radio devices, routers, switches, servers, racks, UPS systems, storage devices, and network cards. – Provide networking support to staff and students of the university, including but not limited to – BTU Network User Registration, – BTU Network Connectivity Troubleshooting, – Providing policy guidance for institutional decision-making

Web & Applications Unit

Responsible for the following operations and activities: • Planning, design, development, and testing of new systems, • Deployment and support for systems • Troubleshooting and debugging applications • Monitoring, updates, upgrades of existing systems and security • Server engineering and admin responsibilities • End User support and training • Management of the university website and all web applications of the university. • Management of Management Information System (MIS) of the university and Support Services

Academic Support & eLearning Unit

Responsible for the following operations and activities: • Development of a strategic eLearning plan • Gather information and course elements from members of staff, various departments etc. • Develop and design e-Learning material, with the help of instructional designers, graphic designers, and programmers to support eLearning content • Coordinate and review educational content and incorporate current technology in developing specific eLearning curricula. • Support the deployment of learning programs including uploading and updating course content, and learner notification text • Provide training to individuals and users groups. • Ensure users are registered for education and training events • Coordinate and lend expertise in technical aspects of eLearning to various departments as may be required
